In-depth knowledge
When should I start planning?
Ideally, you should start detailed planning 5-10 years before your planned retirement. During this phase, you can still actively shape things: make pension fund buy-ins, optimize pillar 3a staggering, reduce debt, and adjust your investment strategy.
The closer retirement gets, the less room for action remains. But even with a shorter lead time, we can still optimize a lot.
Pension or lump sum – the big question
The decision between pension and lump sum is individual. The pension offers: lifelong security, no investment decisions, and usually survivor benefits. The lump sum offers: flexibility, inheritability, potentially higher returns, and tax advantages.
Many choose a combination: covering basic needs with a pension, taking the rest as a lump sum. We calculate both scenarios in detail.
Tax optimization on withdrawal
Lump-sum withdrawals from the 2nd and 3rd pillar are taxed separately and at reduced rates. But: withdrawals in the same year are added together, leading to tax progression.
The solution: staggered withdrawal over several years. The optimal plan also takes into account your canton of residence, marital status, and any withdrawals by your partner.
Planning early retirement
Many dream of early retirement at 60 or 62. This is feasible, but requires careful planning.
Questions to clarify: How do I finance the years until AHV starts? How does earlier pension withdrawal affect my pension fund pension? What AHV contributions do I need to pay as a non-working person? We calculate through all scenarios.
Avoid common mistakes
These are the mistakes we see most often in practice
Planning too late
5 years before retirement is the minimum. Many optimizations are then no longer possible.
Only looking at the pension
Many people focus only on the monthly pension and forget lump-sum options, tax consequences, and flexibility.
Underestimating taxes on withdrawal
Without staggering, CHF 50,000+ in avoidable taxes can quickly accrue.
Underestimating longevity
Someone retiring at 65 statistically still has 20+ years to live. Wealth must last accordingly.
